In my 18 years as a guitar player, I have had the pleasure of playing and owning more than few. In my memories the brand name of Yamaha ranks among the best I have played. I have also had opportunity to play the LL16 12 string and the FG720S 12 string guitars. These are the 12 string guitars I will discuss here.

First we'll discuss the FG720S. It is the lower priced of the two, but well equipped, for the money, and playability is awesome! Rosewood fingerboard and bridge help keep the action on this one reasonable at factory settings, while keeping the fret buzz down to a minimum. The sitka top with a tortoise pick guard are guaranteed to stay looking nice for years of playing in front of your friends or at the campfire. The nato back and sides will produce sounds that are sure please, and these come white and black neck bindings and standard chrome tuning keys. For a low priced guitar, the FG720s I played, was a top of the stack guitar!

The LL16-12 12 string is a cherry that should be presented on a stage! Mine had die cast gold plated tuners that never lost tune or loosened. The natural engleman spruce had a high gloss finish that was like a mirror. Ebony fingerboard and bridge kept the action extremely low without any fret buzz. A mahogany neck was truly sweet, and the rosewood back and sides, made by Yamaha, produce such a sweet sound! This one costs a little more, okay, a lot more, but ultimately, it's worth it. The jumbo body's are a little difficult to get used to, but you were determined to get the best, and this one is a very hard one to beat!

I know, the MSRP's on these are too much to be believed! There are options though. You don't have to have a store bought or brand new axe, do you? Exercise a little patience, do a little research. You will find out that there are more out there, at reasonable prices, than you would have believed. Look on e-bay, I bet you will find the two I have listed here and many more Yamaha 12 string guitars!
